About this place
Opening at 3:00 in the afternoon, Decosuke is a reliable Machiya stop for an early drink. Tucked behind the Toden tram side of Keisei Machiya Station, the narrow tavern welcomes diners with a long straight counter and a few tables near the entrance. A playful sign reading "There’s nothing waiting for you back home anyway" sets a humorous tone as you part the noren curtains and step into a classic, unpretentious shitamachi drinking spot.
The backbone of the menu is an extensive, budget-friendly selection of seafood and drinking bites. Raw bigeye tuna and sardines are popular enough to sell out early, while aromatic grilled homemade thick-fried tofu and classic simmered beef offal make trusty companions for a drink. Slips of paper cover the walls with quirky dish names like "Top-Only Margarita" and "Housewife's Potato Salad," turning the process of choosing what to order into half the fun.
Draft beer shares the drink roster with refreshing chuhai choices like the "Slightly Fancier Lemon Sour" and tomato highballs. Nihonshu options include Denshu and Kubota, supplemented by shochu and whisky, making it easy to pace drinks through the meal. With plenty of stools at the counter, solo drinkers find a natural perch, and bills are settled smoothly in cash only.
